AI and the Pharmacist: Mitigation of a Billable Workload

  • Tuesday, May 6, 2025
  • 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

[AI TRACK] Pharmaceutical manufacturers and more recently, pharmacy benefits managers and pharmacies have been charged with violations of the Anti-Kickback statute (42 USC 1320a-7b) (AKS) when coupons, copays and other incentives are improperly used by Federal beneficiaries. Pharmacists may also be overworked with outdated systems that require multiple logins, passwords, and other time-wasting disruptions. An automated, Artificial Intelligence (AI) enhanced system with real-time, accurate data at the point of sale could save pharmacists time that they could better spend providing clinical care to patients and keep pharmacies in compliance with the AKS, while reducing fraud. This presentation, demonstrating the vast capabilities of AI, will take a deep dive into the overarching adjudication process of claims that a comprehensive real-time AI-enhanced system may make more efficient, ultimately getting the patient the treatment they need, facilitate a pharmacy workflow that has fewer interruptions, reduce the risk of fraud, and achieve successful recourse from the payer.
